I’m Vicky Moteane, founder of Elastic

From the age of seven, I trained in ballet, modern and jazz through the ISTD syllabi, completing my advanced level qualifications. Dance was a huge part of my childhood. Whilst studying A’ Level Dance, I developed a love for contemporary, which led to me successfully auditioning to study at the renowned Northern Contemporary Dance School.

Opting to keep things a little more local, I trained at Middlesex University, where I studied Humphrey, Release, Cunningham and Graham technique, along with choreography and dance history and analysis. Since graduating, I’ve performed in numerous music videos including ‘Damage’, ‘Tall Paul’ and ‘Blue’, but soon discovered my real passion was for teaching.

Alongside my BA (Hons) in Dance & English, I have also completed a Diploma in Dance Education in ballet and a Licentiate in modern dance, and continue to study around the subjects of dance science, psychology and mindset. As a teacher and a parent, I find this learning fascinating and highly beneficial.

Michelle Britton, Contemporary teacher

I’ve been dancing since I was six years old, taking ballet, tap and modern classes. Movement and dance have remained a constant throughout my life. I studied BA (Hons) Performing Arts (Dance) at Middlesex University where I volunteered at the renowned inclusive theatre, Chickenshed. I fell in love with their ethos that dance and performance should be accessible to all. After graduating, I joined Chickenshed as an artistic staff member, during which I had many dance and acting roles. I performed at the Royal Opera House Linbury Theatre, The Royal Albert Hall, The Duke of York’s (West End), Edinburgh Festival and at Chickenshed’s own Rayne Theatre in North London. When I wasn’t performing, I taught on the BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts and the Foundation Degree Course.

I’m so excited to be working with Elastic, and look forward to exploring dance and its creative possibilities with our amazing students.

Laura Veazey, Jazz teacher

I trained at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts on the professional dance course. During my training, as well as being involved in Tring Park's productions, I was fortunate enough to perform with English National Ballet (ENB) and National Youth Ballet (NYB) working with high-profile choreographers in London's top theatres.

After graduating from Tring Park, I worked as an intern at English National Ballet Company, before continuing work as an administrator specialising in the arts. I then spent some time working as a Theatrical Agent, and assisting on film sets.

Having always wanted to work with children, in 2014 I started my teacher training with the ISTD, gaining a DDI (Diploma in Dance Instruction) in Ballet. Developing a huge love and passion for teaching, I continued my learning and training, going on to gain my DDE (Diploma in Dance Education) in Ballet & Modern in 2022. I continue to study child development, with a focus on mental well-being, and bring this to the forefront of all my classes.

Daisy Wheeller, Musical theatre teacher

I’m a performer and teacher with over a decade of experience in the industry. After studying at Performance Preparation Academy, I worked in various theatre productions as well as internationally on cruise ships as a lead vocalist. Since moving to Brighton four years ago, I have worked in a variety of different contexts as a musical director, choir leader, and private singing teacher. I’m a Vocal Health First Aider and am also studying part-time for a degree in Psychology and Counselling, with a view to working in the field of performing arts medicine. I advocate for the endless holistic benefits of performing and expressive arts and believe in the importance of accessibility and inclusivity to all children and young people. I’m very excited to be working with Elastic!

why choose elastic?

Dance is wonderfully broad-ranging, from gestural to expansive, funny to moving, ethereal to earthy, making it endlessly creative. The benefits are wide-ranging too, from improved stamina, flexibility and strength, to an increase in focus, patience and resilience. It’s an opportunity to build imagination, for escapism, and to have fun, where life-long friendships are so often made.

At Elastic, we package up this passion for dance into our teaching, delivering quality dance classes for children. As highly trained teachers, we’re committed to broadening our knowledge further still by regularly attending training centred around our syllabi, or more general courses such as ‘Encouraging boys to dance’ and ‘How to meet learning needs.’ We like to keep our methods fresh and our brains sharp!

Students are given the opportunity to sit exams with excellent results achieved - we have a 100% success rate. We’ve enjoyed workshops from performers within the industry, hold regular ‘open classes’ where parents are invited to observe their child’s class and every other year we produce a show in a professional theatre, involving the entire dance school.

Green issues are at the heart of our decision making. Our leotards are made entirely from waste products, we make a termly donation to a green cause and our pre-loved uniform is sent to an inspirational school in Kenya. We strive to be a dance school that does good and feels good.

Elastic is a wonderful dance school. My daughter has been a student with Elastic for 5 years, progressing from pre-primary ballet to grade 2 ballet and modern. I can honestly say that Vicky has been the most wonderful teacher creating a caring nurturing environment for all the students. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Elastic for dance classes whatever your age.
